Hawaii’s Pre-Travel Testing Program to Start Oct. 15
Beginning October 15, the pre-travel testing program is available for travelers to Hawaii as an alternative to the 14-day quarantine.
Mandatory State of Hawaii Travel and Health Form
Starting September 1, all guests traveling into and within the state of Hawai‘i will need to submit their travel information and complete a health questionnaire using the state’s new Safe Travels application. Quarantine, closures back in effect in Hawaii
With confirmed cases of COVID-19 spiking throughout the state, Hawaii Gov. David Ige has reinstituted the 14-day quarantine for interisland travelers and closed bars, beaches and parks.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell also announced a two-week stay-at-home, work-from-home order for Oahu, effective Thursday, August 27, 2020.
The mandatory interisland quarantine went into effect on Tuesday, August 11. Beaches and parks were closed effective Saturday, August 8.
Quarantine details for mainland and international arrivals
A previously announced plan to lift the mandatory 14-day quarantine for mainland and international travelers arriving in Hawaii has been put on hold until at least October 1, 2020.
It is unclear at this time whether the quarantine order will be extended beyond September or if the plan will go into effect October 1 as scheduled.
If it does go into effect, the current plan would allow incoming mainland and international travelers to bypass quarantine with an approved negative COVID-19 test result. Travelers are advised to visit hawaii.gov for the latest information before finalizing any travel plans.
How has COVID-19 impacted the state of Hawaii?
Hawaii’s status as a major travel destination has prompted local public health and tourism officials to ramp up efforts to mitigate the risk of the coronavirus spread (COVID-19). Hawaii’s first case of the virus was confirmed on March 6, after a resident tested positive following a return to Oahu after a February cruise from San Francisco to Mexico. The World Health Organization has ruled the coronavirus a “public health emergency of international concern.”
